Feeding Guideline
The adult horse in idle work being fed a good quality forage will require 2 pounds of American Family Feed per day.
As the horse's workload increases, the amount of feed should also be increased as needed by the individual horse. Because of the extrusion process, you can safely feed large amounts of American Family Feed without the worry of dangerous feed related issues.
Most horses in regular work require 2-4 pounds per day of American Family Feed
Rescued and Neglected Horses
Horses that are starved and being re-fed can safely consume American Family Feed. Due to the nature of the steam processing, starved horses are able to absorb the nutrients at higher rates, making re-feeding them much more efficient and easier and safer on the horse.
Miniature Horses
Miniature horses not in work should be fed 1/2 a pound of American Family Feed per day with their forage.
A miniature in work, show condition or breeding can safely be fed 1 pound per day of American Family Feed for maximum nutrition, coat shine and productivity.
Foals
Creep feeding and weanlings should be fed 2 pounds per day with their forage. Increase the ration to 3 pounds for the yearling and 2 year old years. This will help ensure your foal reaches her maximum genetic potential.
Mares in Foal to 250 days
Mares in foal and through 250 days past parturition should be fed 2-3 pounds per day with their forage depending on the size and needs of the mare.
TO BE FED WITH THE FORAGE OF YOUR CHOICE!
ALL Equines require the majority of their diet to be compromised of forage. AFF is SAFE to feed in excess quantities but should never be a substitute for good quality forage unless no other options are available.
HORSES with stressful rigorous schedules should be fed 4 pounds per day to compensate for lost vitamins, minerals and electrolytes used during heavy workouts. Horses who have been traveling benefit from an extra meal of AFF, adding water increases the gut motility and will help your horse while under added stress.
